Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill has confirmed that funding is now being provided by Donegal County Council to carry out necessary improvement works at Port Pier in Inver.
Senator Ó Domhnaill said; “I have today received confirmation from the Marine Engineer with Donegal county Council that improvement works will be carried out at Port Pier in Inver. The work to be carried out includes the re-construction of the sections of the sea wall that collapsed during the storms at the beginning of this year, the repair of sections of the sea wall along the beach area where undermining has taken place. Other works which will be carried out include maintenance work to the pier, replacement of rings, repairing of steps and improving the lighting at the pier.”
“I very much welcome this news as I have been making representations to have these repairs carried out for some time. I visited this pier on a number of occasions over the past two years and met with the Local Fishermen when assessing the extend of works required. I also arranged to meet with the Council Marine Engineer on site in order to press the matter.”
“Port Inver Pier is an important Small Pier for Local Inshore fishermen as well as for leisure craft. I am particularly pleased that this work will be carried out over the coming months by the Council.”
