Fianna Fáil Hold Septic Tank Community Information Meetings in Donegal

Fianna Fáil in Donegal are holding a series of information meetings across the County aimed at providing up to date information on the Septic Tank Legislation, Registration Process and Grant-Aid available.

These meetings are being organised to assist householders who have been unacceptably “left in the dark” by the Fine Gael/Labour Government, who has brought in the New Septic Tank/ Waste Water Treatment System, Registration Inspection and Upgrading Laws.

Speaking ahead of this weeks meetings Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill said; “We are holding information meetings across the County to inform people on this issue which will affect every house with a private waste water treatment system (septic tank). It is very clear that the Government have rammed this legislation into law but have totally failed to inform the public of its implications or indeed the new standards to be met – which is totally unfair and unacceptable.”

“We are holding all of our meetings prior to the1st of February Regulation Liability date as the Environment Minister has made registration by this sate a strict condition of eligibility for grant-aid of up to €4,000. Following pressure from Fianna Fáil a grant aid package was put in place and while welcome, and a step in the right direction, should not be capped at €4,000 in view of the fact that some septic tank upgrades may involve higher costs- we have raised this matter with the Minister and have also sought an extension to the Registration date to the End of April so that the standards to be met can be published and scrutinised by all.”

Everyone is welcome to attend these information meetings. A detailed presentation will be provided at each meeting by Cllr Paul Canning, who is an experienced Architect and Qualified Site Assessor.
