Water pipes in Gweedore overdue replacement – Ó Domhnaill

Donegal Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill has criticised the Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan for not approving the necessary funding to replace the water pipe network from Derrybeg to Glassagh in Gaoth Dobhair.

The Fianna Fáil Senator said, “I have raised this issue a number of times with both Donegal County Council and the Department of Environment after several local residents raised concerns about the poor quality of the pipe network. This system was installed in 1954 and is in serious need of upgrade.

“A number of local residents are getting increasingly worried about the particularly high Iron, Manganese and Aluminium levels found in the water in the Carrick area in Gaoth Dobhair. This is most likely connected with the problems associated with the outdated pipe network.

“I have now contacted the Environment Minister Phil Hogan yet again to highlight these worrying issues.  I am again asking him to immediately provide funding to begin meeting the €717,000 upgrading costs associated with this work.”
