Oireachtas Agriculture Committee Supports Ó Domhnaill Proposal

A Proposal by Fianna Fáil Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill to have the closing date for applications to the Agri Environment Options Scheme (AEOS) 3 extended to the end of December 2012 has been endorsed by the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine. This now means the Committee will make a formal request to the Agriculture Minister to have the 30th November closing date extended until the end of the year.

Welcoming the unanimous support of the Committee at its meeting last evening Senator Ó Domhnaill said; “The new AEOS Scheme is very welcome even though the Scheme has a reduced Budget. The November 30th closing date (28 working days from today) leaves a very narrow window available to prepare applications.”

“The applications have to be prepared for farmers by Agriculture Advisors. Many of those Advisors who also work as Tax Consultants & Accountants are busy preparing for Revenue deadlines and therefore in order to allow the maximum number of farmers an opportunity to apply it is essential to have this extension granted.”

“I now hope that the Minister will accommodate this request.”
