Donegal South West Senator has welcomed confirmation from Donegal County Council that planning permission has been granted to Finn Valley College for the construction of an extension to the College to provide one single storey classroom and associated storage areas. This extension will provide for the ASD Unit at the new School.
“Funding of €150,000 approved for the ASD Unit in 2008 was withdrawn in 2011. Following my ongoing representations to the Department of Education and my raising of the issue on the floor of the Seanad it was agreed to accept a new application from County Donegal VEC which was submitted to the Department prior to Christmas.”
“Funding was subsequently approved and the approval of Planning Permission will now allow this project to proceed to construction. This new facility will be an excellent additional response to the New College facility.
“I am delighted that Donegal County Council have approved the planning application which will allow this vitally important ASD Unit to be provided to the New Finn Valley College given the need that exists in the School for such a facility. The new unit will improve the quality of life and Educational advancement of students who would use the Unit by providing intensive and sustained special education programmes to pupils.”
“The chairman of the School’s Board of Management Cllr Patrick McGowan has also welcomed this news.”
