€22m for National Roads in Donegal – Ó Domhnaill

Donegal Fianna Fáil Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill confirmed that the National Roads Authority have allocated more than €22.1 million to County Donegal for national road improvements and maintenance this year. It follows a meeting attended by Senator Ó Domhnaill, members of Donegal County Council and senior officials from the National Roads Authority on 12th January last.

Senator Ó Domhnaill explained, “I have fought for funding for a number of key road projects in Co Donegal and I am pleased to say that agreement has now been given to fund the following projects:

      €12,000 for the N15 Lifford (Traffic Management – Construction of a splitter island at Lifford Roundabout)                                                                        

      €25,000 for the N15 Stranorlar Main St(Pedestrian Crossings at School)               

      €860,000 for the N15 Ballybofey – Cappry (Pavement Overlay at speed limits)     

      €280,000 for the N15 Cashelnavean to Meencrumlin   (pavement overlay to tie in with N15 Blackburn Bridge and Barnesmore works being completed at present)                                                                                               

      €850,000 for the N15 Killygordon -Liscooley (Pavement Overlay at priority locations)

      €1,000,000 for the N15 Blackburn Bridge Realignment Scheme (Completion of detailed design, construction documents tendering and land acquisition for

Phase 1 of the project)

      €50,000 for the N56 Port na Blagh (Traffic Calming )          

      €10,000 for the N56 Meenacuing (Traffic Calming – erection signs and safety review)

      €1,000,000 for the N56 Dungloe to Glenties(Prep for construction 2013)                            

      €6,300,000 for the N56 Cloughbolie to Boyoughter   (Completion of construction contract this work will begin in the next few week)

      €300,000 for the N56 Mountcharles to Inver (completion of land acquisition and of tender documents)    

      €550,000 for the N56 Doohill to Mines (Designed Pavement overlay)                     

      €710,000 for the N56 Crolly to Dore Junction Realignment (Arduns)

“I welcome the news of this funding to  advance a number of key projects in the county, including very important upgrading works to the N56 and the key safety improvements works to the N14, I am disappointed that the allocation of funds for the maintenance of national roads has been reduced by some 20% over last year’s allocation. This will have detrimental consequences for the maintenance, up keeping and pothole repairs on our national roads in the county. “
