Fintown Water Must Be a Funding Priority – Ó Domhnaill

Fintown Community Deserves Good quality Drinking Water Supply

Donegal South West Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill has called on the Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan TD, to approve funding for the upgrading works required on the Fintown Water Supply.

Senator Ó Domhnaill who raised the issue with the Minister for the Environment said; “Water supplies which require upgrading or operational practices improved to ensure that there are no risks to the supply of drinking water are included on a list know as a Remedial Action list.”

“The Fintown supply was added to the Remedial Action list by the Environmental Protection Agency in 2010. Consideration was then given as part of the review of the Water Services Investment Programme 2010-2012, earlier this year, to a proposal by Donegal County Council for improvement works for this supply to be undertaken as part of the proposed Lettermacaward Regional Water Supply Scheme which is included in the Programme.”

“I have now been informed by the Minister that his Department decided that given the scale of works, a more appropriate cost effective solution could be delivered under the Rural Water Programme. “

“Donegal County Council are now preparing a new application for funding towards the work required in Fintown and I am therefore calling on the Minister to give early approval to this application which will be submitted very shortly.”
