240 SPA Objections submitted – Ó Domhnaill

Donegal South West Brian Ó Domhnaill has received confirmation from the Department of Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht Affairs that some 240 objections have been submitted to the Department from landowners who are dissatisfied with the designations.

Ó Domhnaill said; “The large volume of objections show that landowners are not satisfied with the designations made by the Government to designate private lands as Special Protection Areas.”

Individual Meetings Required

“I am calling on the Minister for Arts, Heritage & Gaeltacht Affairs to ensure that each person who has submitted an objection is given the opportunity of having a one-to-one meeting from officials in the Department as part of the consideration of the objections. “

“Every landowner who has made an objection deserves a transparent and open process. I certainly hope the Government will provide the openness required given the potential consequences to the designated lands.”
