Ó DOMHNAILL CONFIRMS RECOMMENCEMENT OF

Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill has received confirmation from the Minister of State at the Department of Health, Roisin Shorthall, TD, in the Seanad tonight, that there will be a recommencement of x-ray services in Killybegs Community Hospital and Donegal Community Hospital one day each per week.

Speaking in the Seanad on the matter Ó Domhnaill said;

I am seeking the full restoration of x-ray services to two days per week for each Hospital. The local communities of Killybegs and Donegal Town raised almost €300,000 towards the purchase of the x-ray equipment and it is totally unacceptable for the HSE and the Government to then withdraw the service.”

“While the confirmation that the x-ray services will be restored to one day per week in each Hospital is welcome news and a step in the right direction, I am seeking for the full restoration of the two days per week service for both facilities. I also find it important to protect the two days per week x-ray service being provided at Dungloe Community Hospital.” Said Ó Domhnaill

“The Minister confirmed in the Seanad that there area 11 public residential care units in Donegal and the HSE has x-ray facilities in a number of these units. Almost 5,900 patients availed of x-ray services in 2010 and between January and May 2011 nearly 2,800 patients used this service.”

“The action taken by the HSE to close services in two community Hospitals and transfer x-ray services to Letterkenny General Hospital must never be allowed to occur again. Local Cllr Brendan Byrne has worked closely with me locally to have this decision reversed.” Concluded  Ó Domhnaill
