Ó Domhnaill elected to Seanad Éireann

Local Fianna Fáil Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill has been re-elected to Seanad Éireann, after taking the first of four seats for the party on the Agricultural Panel. He was joined by fellow Fianna Fáil candidates Jim Walsh, Denis O’Donovan and Paschal Mooney, who were all elected this afternoon.

Speaking at Leinster House after he was deemed elected, Senator Ó Domhnaill said, “I am thrilled to have been re-elected to Seanad Éireann and returned to the Fianna Fáil parliamentary party. This is a great personal victory for me after a long and strenuous campaign. I have enjoyed meeting with so many voters and public representatives in Donegal and around the country over the past number of months, and my job will now be to represent their views at a national level.

“I will play a strong role in the renewal of Fianna Fáil and in a type of opposition politics that is constructive and focused on the people. Fianna Fáil has exceeded expectations in the Seanad elections so far, with six Senators elected from just two panels. It shows Micheál Martin has taken the right approach by creating a healthy debate about this election and fuelling the strong appetite for renewal.”
