Ó Domhnaill Confirms €3 million for Housing Grants

General Election Candidate Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill has welcomed confirmation from his colleague the Minister for Housing and Local Services Michael Finneran TD that funding of €3,100,769 has been approved to Donegal County Council for Housing Adaptation Grant Schemes for Older People and People with a Disability.

Ó Domhnaill said: “I welcome this announcement by Minister Finneran to improve homes for older people and people with a disability. These schemes are vitally important in assisting older people and people with a disability to continue living in their own homes and communities with the comfort and dignity they deserve.”

“There has been a high level of activity under these grant schemes since they were introduced over three years ago with over 13,900 grants paid to applicants in 2010 nationally. “

“Grants of up to €30,000 are available for improvement works and extensions to facilitate a person with a disability. Eligible works include provision of level access showers, installation of stair lifts, grab rails and access ramps. “

“The mobility Aids Grant Scheme is available to fast tract grants of up to €6,000 to address the mobility problems of a member of a household. In the case of older people, a grant of up to €10,500 is available to assist householders to have necessary repairs or improvements carried out to their homes.”

“This allocation takes account of commitments, applications on hand and amount of funding requested by each Local Authority.”
