Donegal South West Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill has this afternoon said that the news of potential job losses at Gallaghers Bakery in Ardara is very disappointing news. The company is owned by it’s parent company I.A.W.S. (Aryzpa) which also owns the Cuisine de France brand.

Speaking this afternoon Ó Domhnaill said: “I am extremely disappointed and concerned at the news of the expected job losses at Gallagher’s Bakery in Ardara.”

“Some 189 people are currently employed in the company. This company has provided long and meaningful employment in the Ardara Area for many years and has been supported by Údarás na Gaeltachta.”

“I understand that the company has provided long and meaningful employment in the Ardara Area for many years and has been supported by Údaras na Gaeltachta. I understand that the Company is regrettably planning to discontinue the “Cuisine de France” production in Ardara. I am calling on the company to reconsider this decision.”

“Údarás na Gaeltachta approved a funding package for the Company in early 2010, however the Company regrettably choose not to draw down the financial package on offer. The package remains available to the company.”

“I have been in constant contact with the Údarás na Gaeltachta CEO Mr. Sean Ó Labhraí in recent days about the company and I can confirm that Senior Údarás Officials will meet with the company tomorrow to discuss the current situation.”

“Údarás na Gaeltachta remain fully committed to supporting the company and I have asked our officials to do everything possible to protect the jobs within the Company.”
