Ó Domhnaill confirms €19 million for Donegal Roads

Donegal South West Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill has welcomed the allocation of more than €19 million for National Roads in Donegal Roads in the 2011 National Roads Allocation.

Ó Domhnaill said: “The County allocation is an increase of approximately €7 million on last year’s allocation, illustration the commitment to improving the County’s road infrastructure.

Senator Ó Domhnaill in particular welcomes the following allocations;

N14/N15 to A5 Link Road  -€1,066,000

“This work includes the completion of the preliminary design and environmental assessment for the new crossing and completion of statutory procedures on both sides of the border.  If possible land acquisition by agreement is also proposed as is the procurement of the construction contract.”

N56 Mountcharles to Inver Realignment – €1,463,000

“It is proposed to carry out the tender process for the construction contract and continue with land acquisition. A small amount of archaeological resolution is required as a follow up to the testing contract completed in 2010.”


N56 Dungloe to Glenties – €2,428,000

“It is proposed to complete the preliminary design and environmental assessment to allow for publication of a CPO and EIS in the middle of 2011. It is also proposed to start construction on a section of this scheme, subject to the acquisition of lands by agreement and approval of a Part 8 planning application.

N56 Tirlin to Drimnaraw -€1,600,000

“This is a major national secondary realignment schemes already substantially progressed on site should be completed.  Substantial resources are needed for design, procurement and supervision.

Creeslough Main Street – €560,000  

Ardara Main Street          -€304,000

“I welcome both the allocations which follow on from my ongoing representations to the former Minister Noel Dempsey TD to have funding made available for both these projects. The works will include design, supervision, procurement and construction. “

“The overall allocation of more than €19 million for County Donegal is a significant investment in the county’s road infrastructure and once again shows this Government’s commitment to progressing projects that will enhance quality of life for people, connect communities and help position Donegal as an attractive place for investment.  Better roads facilitate greater competitiveness and that is why I will continue to push for improvements on our road network,” concluded Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill.
