Government committed to Donegal to Dublin motorway

Government committed to developing Donegal to Dublin motorway – Ó’Domhnaill

Donegal South West Senator Brian Ó’Domhnaill has been assured by the Minister for Transport that the Government is committed to the Donegal to Dublin motorway project.

Following a request for the latest information on plans for the route, Senator Ó’Domhnaill has received a written update from Minister Noel Dempsey.

“I have been reassured that despite the difficult economic situation, the Government is committed to fulfilling its side of the bargain regarding the A5 scheme. This is a joint project with the Stormont Executive, with construction work due to begin in 2012 and finish in 2015.”

“I welcome that the motorway will be extended into the North. The Government has put aside funding for the project, and I urge the authorities in the North to speed up the process at their end. The development will help open up Donegal by improving access to the county.”

“I have also sought details from the Minister about other planned projects along the route. This matter is in the hands of the National Roads Authority which is reviewing its investment plans for the roads network into the future,” concluded Senator Ó’Domhnaill.
