The Future of Donegal Hospice is Secure – Ó Domhnaill
Reports to the contrary are “inaccurate and irresponsible”
Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill, Fianna Fáil bye-election candidate in Donegal South West, has said the future of Donegal Hospice is secure and that any reports to the contrary are inaccurate and irresponsible.
“I would like to reassure the people of Donegal that there are no plans to close the Hospice In-Patient Unit in Letterkenny. I have been reassured by Minister for Older People and Health Promotion, Aíne Brady TD, that any suggestion of closure is completely without foundation. Such suggestions have upset patients and their families.”
“Senator Ó Domhnaill continued, “The hospice has already received funding of over €2m from the HSE for the service this year. However, a significant portion of pay costs are associated with issues such as Overtime and On-Call arrangements.
“Discussions are ongoing as to how these issues can be addressed given the current economic climate. However, I want to reassure Donegal patients and their families that there is no question of closing down this vital service.”
