Ó Domhnaill welcomes new Language Strategy

Ó Domhnaill welcomes approval for new Language Strategy

Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill today welcomed the decision by the Government’s Committee on the Irish language to approve the draft Twenty Year Strategy for the language.

“Today’s decision means that we will have a comprehensive and ambitious new strategy for the Gaeltacht and the Irish language by the end of the year and that is great news for Donegal South West. This strategy will set out a new approach for the promotion of the language and for the cultural, economic and social development of the Gaeltacht. This is a clear statement from the Taoiseach and his fellow Ministers on their long-term commitment to the Gaeltacht and the language. It proves yet again that a vote for Fianna Fail is a vote for a party that is serious about the Gaeltacht and the Irish language.”

“The Government sub-committee, under the Chairmanship of the Taoiseach Brian Cowen, met today to discuss the Twenty Year Strategy and gave its approval to the final draft. The Strategy will go to Government for final approval in the coming weeks.”
