Ó Domhnaill welcomes €387,000 funding boost for Donegal South West
Donegal South West bye-election candidate Fianna Fáil Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill has warmly welcomed news that in excess of €387,000 has been directed into six projects in his constituency under the Community Services Programme.
Lárionad Achmhainní Nádúrtha in Falcarragh has been approved for some €171,747, Western Waves Community Radio in Bundoran has been allocated €88,099, Tír na n-óg Sports and Wellness Centre in Gortahork and Inver Community Centre will both benefit to the tune of €38,066, Tógra Fiontar and Cultúr Uladh in Gortahork has been sanctioned for €28,549 while the Forge Family Resource Centre in Pettigo has been approved for funding of €19,033.
The monies have been approved by the Minister for Social Protection, Éamon Ó Cuív, under the Community Services Programme. It will be directed towards staffing costs over a three year period from 2011 to 2013.
Senator Ó Domhnaill complimented those involved in running each of the services: “The services, which range from a new community radio station to well-established and important community facilities, enjoy generous support in their respective localities.
“I am delighted that the Government has approved this funding at this time. It is evidence of our commitment to promoting sustainable and inclusive community development”, Senator Ó Domhnaill added.
The programme is designed to work in partnership with local service providers where gaps are identified in the services or there is insufficient demand for services that would normally be provided by the public and/or private sectors. Each supported organisation must also generate additional income by way of service fees, trading and/or fundraising. At present the programme supports 2,700 people in employment, delivers a wide range of essential services and generates significant additional funds to the support and development of service providers.
