Will Doherty support SF decision to delay radiotherapy?

Will Doherty support Sinn Féin’s decision to delay radiotherapy services in Altnagelvin – Ó Domhnaill

Donegal South West Bye-election candidate and Fianna Fáil Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill has called on Sinn Féin’s Pearse Doherty to clarify his position on radiotherapy services in Derry following the news that the project is being put on the long finger by his party colleagues in the Northern Ireland Assembly.

Senator Ó Domhnaill said: “The powersharing executive has rowed back on its commitment to provide radiotherapy services in Altnagelvin in Derry by 2015. This is a major issue for me and for the people of Donegal. I am calling on Pearse Doherty to clarify whether he supports his party’s decision to delay the rollout of cancer services which will be accessed by Donegal patients or not?”

“I have championed cross border cooperation on cancer services in the Seanad and my work has paid off. Despite the challenging economic climate the Irish Government is committed to supporting the rollout of radiotherapy services in Derry which will benefit patients from the border counties like Donegal. It appears that Sinn Féin doesn’t seem to share this commitment.”

Senator Ó Domhnaill concluded: “It is time for Pearse Doherty to come clean and tell us where he stands. Will he support his party’s position or will he stand up for Donegal patients?”
