Payments Flow to Donegal Farmers

Donegal South West Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill has welcomed the significant payments being made to Donegal farmers under the Single Payment Scheme (SPS) and Disadvantaged Area Scheme (DAS).

“Over 7,000 farmers in Donegal alone are receiving payments under the Single Payment Scheme and close to 7,000 Donegal farmers are benefiting from the Disadvantaged Area Scheme.”

Senator Ó Domhnaill said: “This is the fifth successive year Ireland has paid an advance of the single farm payment and this is unprecedented in the EU.”

“By the time the processing of the 2010 applications is completed, it’s expected the Department of Agriculture will have processed and digitised maps received from over 77,000 farmers nationally, compared with a figure of 30,000 for 2009.”

“Fianna Fáil is working hard for Donegal farmers and I will ensure that this remains the case. The agriculture sector is extremely important in Donegal and can contribute greatly to our economic recovery.”

“I am aware that some farmers have not yet received the full amount of their advance payment because the maps submitted by them this year have not yet been digitised. This process has to take place under law. Ineligible areas entered by farmers on the maps submitted to the Department must be re-digitised onto the Land Parcel Identification System (LPIS), which is a highly technical process. However this is required as the LPIS underpins total expenditure of over €1.8 billion,” concluded Senator Ó Domhnaill.
