Ó Domhnaill Confirms Commencement of €8 Million Sheep Fencing/Mobile Handling Equipment Scheme
Donegal South West Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill has today (Sunday) confirmed that the new €8 million Sheep Fending/Mobile Handling Equipment Scheme will be open for applications from Monday next November 1st 2010.
Ó Domhnaill said: “This scheme is part of the Rural Development Programme and will help sheep farmers in reducing labour input. The scheme will compliment the €7 million Uplands Sheep scheme, launched by the Minister for Agriculture last year, and the €54 million Grassland Sheep Scheme, launched earlier this year, which will provide a much needed boost to sheep farmers income.”
“This funding will prove to be of assistance to many sheep farmers across Donegal. It is heartening to note that Teagasc have recently estimated that the margins of sheep farmers will increase by 28% this year as a result of a combination of cover costs and higher prices.”
“In order to ensure that grant assistance will flow to successful applicants, the €8 million which is available under the scheme will be paid out in a series of tranches, the first of which will run until January 31st 2011 and for which €1.148 million will be available.”
“Full details on the terms and conditions of the scheme are available at www.agriculture.gov.ie and applications forms can be obtained from my office.”
